NATURAL REMEDIES Keep ears warm, and the person resting in bed, head slightly, as well as the trunk if possible, to help natural drainage of the eustachian tubes. (In some cases surgical draining might be necessary)
Bake a large onion until it becomes soft, and tie it over the ear. This will give great relief when the pain is severe.
Garlic Juice& Lobelia
Place a few drops of garlic juice in the ear. Then add a couple of drops of lobelia oil (warmed to body temperature.) The garlic purifies and kills germs, the lobelia takes away the pain. An alternative is to place a few drops of olive oil (warmed to body temperature) into the ear first and then follow the procedure above. (Never place liquid or oil in the ear if you have reason to believe the ear drum is burst.)
MULLEIN OIL OR TEA TREE OIL
Warm Place 2-3 drops of warm mullein oil in the ear 2-3 times daily. It has been used to treat earaches for years. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil, to vegetable oil and place some in the ear.
GARLIC OIL
Dripping garlic oil directly into the ear canal has been shown to treat fungal infections as well as or better than drugs.
Echinacea
Take alcohol -free echinacea extract by mouth; in general this will end an ear infection if you catch it early.
Goldenseal/Echinacea
½ dropperful of alcohol- free goldenseal extract can be taken and swished around in the mouth for a few minutes before swallowing. This should be done every three hours for three days, alternate back and forth with echinacea extract for better results.
For an infant place the extract in its milk.
You can also mix one drop each of the tinctures; echinacea, goldenseal, and licorice root to a cup of boiling water. Drink this 3 times per day.
FOODS
A 1991 pediatric study o more than 100 children with chronic middle ear infection revealed that 78% were sensitive to foods such as corn, milk, peanuts, and wheat. By eliminating the offending foods 86% were cleared of their ear problems.
Sugar, dairy products, meat and heavy meals should especially be avoided during a crisis.
Dairy products are a major contributor to ear infections because hey increase mucous in the body, while excessive sweets, and starches lower resistance and intensify ear problems.
