| Ever wonder if your dreams of doing you will come true? One thing I have learned over time is that you are in control of your destiny, as long as you know what path you are supposed to be on. Oftentimes, I find that people are in positions that are not meant for them.
I have encountered managers who can't manage, customer service agents who don't know the first thing about customer service and many chefs who can't boil water. Okay, maybe not to that extreme, but you get my drift and I'm sure you can relate. Sometimes circumstances force us to take certain jobs just to survive and believe it or not, our attitude about it (good or bad) shows in the quality of our work, how we deal with adversity and how we treat others. We just have trouble saying, "Hey, this is not for me," because for many of us, change is not in our vocabulary and because we fear change, we'd rather stay in a rut than dig ourselves out.
Just like a baby crawls before she walks, you have to start to take baby steps towards your goal. But doing nothing begets you the same result: nothing. We are also quick to blame others: Oh, I can't pursue my dreams because of my kids, the house, my spouse...and so on. In many cases, this may be true; however, if you don't step out on faith and take a chance, then you are doing yourself a dis- service. When a baby first starts to walk, she may fall, but quickly bounces back to try it again. And again. As Ugandan restaurateur Stephen Kaggwa has stated, "Try and fail, but don't fail to try."
The Bible talks about spiritual gifts -- gifts that we've been given by the Creator. First Corinthians Chapter 7:7 states, "....But each of you has your own gift from God. One has this gift, another has that." Chapter 12 talks about spiritual gifts. Verse 4 states, "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them."
So if you did not know it before, YOU, my friend, have certain gifts that have been bestowed upon you by the Most High. Maybe your heart's desire is to be an artist, a baker, a seamstress, a photo- grapher, a published author. There is something unique and wonderful about you. Of course, these gifts may not be what earns you a living, but if it is all you think about doing and you want it to be your bread and butter, then what are you waiting for?
